About This Tool

This tool was developed as a learning exercise to better understand habitats and biotopes. Several different concepts and technologies were explored, although not all were ultimately used e.g. Leaflet, shapefiles, GeoJSON, WFS, WMS, lazy loading, PostGIS, coordinate systems, spatial joins, GDAL and the JNCC marine/biotope classifications. The Intertidal Phase 1 Habitat Survey Wales was chosen because it’s well-defined (although it took a bit of time to understand what it was all about!). Indicator species occurrence data is obtained from the NBN Altas. Terrestrial habitats will be added next.
